C onsidering the scope and influence of Scientology worldwide, it may be hard to believe the religion is only a few decades old. Despite its comparatively recent founding, Scientology has enjoyed a history that is remarkably rich in accomplishments.     Dianetics: Evolution of a Science published.

    9 May 1950

    Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health published.

    7 June 1950

    Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation established. This was the first organization of Dianetics and headquartered, until 1951, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Branch offices were located in New York, Chicago, Washington, DC, Los Angeles and Hawaii.

    1951

    First Dianetics group formed in Australia.

    January 1951

    Notes on the Lectures of L. Ron Hubbard published.

    28 June 1951

    Science of Survival released at the 1st Annual Conference of Hubbard Dianetics Auditors in Wichita, Kansas as a limited edition manuscript.

    August 1951

    Hardcover edition of Science of Survival first published.

    August 1951

    Self Analysis published.

    October 1951

    Child Dianetics published.

    November 1951

    Advanced Procedure and Axioms published in Wichita, Kansas.

    December 1951

    Dianetics: The Original Thesis published.

    1952

    First Dianetics groups formed in Israel and New Zealand.

    12 February 1952

    The Hubbard College, the first organization established and controlled by L. Ron Hubbard, founded in Wichita, Kansas to train Dianetics auditors.

    May 1952

    The Wichita training center moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There, L. Ron Hubbard publicly announced the formal establishment of the philosophy of Scientology and the formation of the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International (HASI).

    July 1952

    Scientology: A History of Man published.

    21 September 1952

    L. Ron Hubbard began delivery of the first training course for auditors in England. He also established the first British Scientology organization, and a London branch of the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International.

    November 1952

    Scientology 8-80 published.

    December 1952

    Scientology 8-8008 published.

    1 December 1952

    The first lecture of the Philadelphia Doctorate Course was delivered by L. Ron Hubbard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and he presented the first copies of Scientology 8-8008.

    April 1953

    How to Live Though an Executive published.

    30 September 1953

    L. Ron Hubbard lectured at the First International Congress of Dianeticists and Scientologists in Philadelphia.

    18 February 1954

    The first church of Scientology founded in Los Angeles, California.

    December 1954

    Dianetics 55! published.

    28 January 1955

    The Church of Scientology of Auckland, New Zealand founded.

    April 1955

    The Creation of Human Ability published.

    21 July 1955

    Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, DC founded along with the first Academy of Scientology. To assist in the publishing and dissemination of Dianetics and Scientology books, a distribution center was also formed at this time.

    15 November 1955

    Church of Scientology of New York founded.

    September 1956

    Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought published.

    30 November 1956

    Church of Scientology of Seattle, Washington was founded.

    December 1956

    The Problems of Work published.

    11 March 1957

    Church of Scientology of Miami, Florida founded.

    May 1957

    All About Radiation published.

    11 November 1957

    Church of Scientology of Johannesburg, South Africa founded.

    December 1957

    Control and the Mechanics of Start, Change, Stop published.

    3 December 1957

    Scientology: Clear Procedure, Issue One published.

    1959

    Release of the Hubbard Mark I E-Meter.

    Spring 1959

    Saint Hill Manor purchased by L. Ron Hubbard. Located in East Grinstead, Sussex, England, the manor served as Mr. Hubbard’s residence, and as the communication center of Scientology.

    26 June 1959

    Hubbard Communications Office Worldwide was established at Saint Hill Manor.

    26 October 1959

    Church of Scientology of Paris, France founded.

    23 November 1959

    International Council for Dianetics and Scientology appointed.
