o commemorate memorable dates in its history, the Church of Scientology observes holidays in all parts of the world through the course of the year. The most significant are celebrated with internationally telecast events to link all Scientology churches. Regular church services are suspended for events, and in those cities where the local church simply cannot accommodate the thousands of parishioners attending the event, suitable auditoriums are rented. Major events are important to every Scientologist, be they in Africa, America, Asia, Australia or Europe as they provide a special sense of unity.
The major Scientology events feature briefings by senior church members on such subjects as the introduction of L. Ron Hubbards works into new nations or sectors of society, the outstanding accomplishments of individual Scientologists and reviews of worldwide growth. Events further feature releases of new Scientology books, materials, courses and society betterment programs all cause for celebration. Although highly dignified affairs, they are also joyous.
Other occasions, such as the founding of the church in a particular country or a city, may be locally observed. Traditional holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, the United States Independence Day and French Bastille Day are not listed, although Scientologists celebrate these occasions in their own countries according to custom.
