Membership in the Association
Members of the International Association are entitled to certain rights and privileges. Churches of Scientology have adopted membership in the International Association of Scientologists as their membership system and grant special privileges and benefits to Association members designed to help them move more quickly up the Bridge.Membership in the Association is open to any Scientologist. There are three categories of membership in the Association:
1. Introductory Membership
An introductory free membership is offered to new Scientologists. It is valid for a period of six months and is not renewable. Beginning members receive magazines and promotional materials from the IAS.
2. Annual Membership
Annual membership is valid for one year. It entitles the holder to benefits of the Association including a membership card and copies of IMPACT, the Association's magazine.
Also included are written briefings to keep members abreast of events and occurrences in Scientology, invitations to Association briefings and events, and the right to participate in IAS award programs and projects.
3. Lifetime Membership
Lifetime membership is valid for the lifetime of the holder and entitles him to all benefits and privileges of the Association.
In addition to the three categories of membership, there are special honor statuses awarded for extraordinary contributions toward achieving the goals of the Association. These honor statuses are valid for the duration of the membership of the holder. There are several categories awarded according to the level of support: “Sponsor of the Association,” “Member of the Honor Roll,” “Patron of the Association,” “Patron with Honors,” “Patron Meritorious,” “Gold Meritorious” and “Member of the Senior Honor Roll.” These statuses are acknowledged through publication to all members of the names of the individuals so awarded, presentation of special pins and plaques and award dinners held to honor the recipients.
Also, anyone who is in agreement with the Pledge to Mankind and the Aims of Scientology, even if he does not attend a church of Scientology or participate in its religious services may, upon contribution to the Association, be accorded the status of Associate. Associate status does not entitle the holder to the benefits and privileges of membership.
